Chat show supremo also plans to get Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson involved to tell story of seminal record company that spawned a thousand stars.
JAMES CORDEN will oversee his biggest-ever gig tomorrow as host of the Grammy Awards.
And being surrounded by music’s famous faces is the perfect chance to network for his next project.
We’ve heard it through the grapevine that James and his TV-making chums are behind a new documentary about Motown Records.
And they are keen to get legends such as SMOKEY ROBINSON, DIANA ROSS and his Carpool Karaoke pal STEVIE WONDER involved.
Production firm Fulwell 73, who recently recruited James as a partner, have already pulled off a huge coup by signing up label founder BERRY GORDY.
The 87-year-old got involved after Steve Barnett, the head of Capitol Music Group which also owns Motown, saw their previous film Class of 92 — about Manchester United.
It also helps that Berry is already a big fan of James and his Late Late Show.
A source revealed:
The story of Motown Records is fascinating and will make an incredible documentary. The fact they have managed to get Berry Gordy on board is really impressive. He has turned down a lot of offers to make similar films in the past but has made an exception for this. It turns out he is a massive fan of James and regularly watches The Late Late Show. He sees James as an old school, all-round performer.
Fulwell directors Gabe and Ben Turner have already been in Chicago filming with Berry and are trawling through his personal archive. Obviously they’re doing everything they can to get the most famous living Motown artists involved too, such as Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross. It’s going to be a great watch.
Berry founded the legendary Motown Records in 1958.
It spawned stars including THE JACKSON 5, MARVIN GAYE, THE SUPREMES and THE TEMPTATIONS.
He dated Diana Ross, who gave birth to his daughter Rhonda in 1971.
James geared up for his presenting job at this year’s Grammys by rolling out the red carpet at the Staples Center in Los Angeles with awards show bosses.
It won’t be long until James is walking down it himself at the Motown premiere.
