#AudioStream: The Clipse – “EAF” (Unreleased Album)

Music / December 14, 2015

Pusha2Ever Hear The Shelved ’90s Clipse LP? The Neptunes Were Down From Jump.

With Pusha T slated to drop his forthcoming album on Friday (King Push: Darkest Before Dawn, December 18) and the Clipse’s two hugely successful studio albums, the appeal of the Virginia Beach, Virginia duo has yet to fade away, despite brothers Pusha and No Malice (f/k/a Malice) not having worked on an album together since 2009’s Til the Casket Drops. And, since stating there would not be another Clipse album at last year’s South By Southwest, No Malice has seemingly ended any speculation about a reunion. However, Heads yearning for unheard Clipse music have something to celebrate in Exclusive Audio Footage, their debut LP that has not seen the light of day since being shelved nearly 20 years ago.

After landing a contract with Elektra Records, the Clipse and newly made friend and collaborator Pharrell Williams began forging their relationship with this album, a peek into The Neptunes’ earlier work. After a disappointing performance from the team’s first single, “Funeral,” the label opted to indefinitely shelve the album, and the two wouldn’t drop a follow-up LP for six years. Also featuring Kelis and Lee Harvey (both of whom are featured on N*E*R*D’s 2001 debut, In Search of…), N.O.R.E., and Kurupt, the album has since been uploaded onto the web, giving fans some insight into just how developed the brothers’ sound became in the years before releasing their breakthrough single, “Grindin’,” in 2002. Similar conceptually from their three other works, the songs are odes to making money, running drugs, and living fast. Check it out in its entirety below.
