For years, Black Thought has been atop countless lists of “the most underrated MCs.” This, despite having consistently released some of the best music in Hip-Hop for a near 30-year span, both with his band The Roots and on countless guest features. Thought addressed the issue, himself, on Statik Selektah’s “The Imperial,” where he punctuated a nearly 3-minute lyrical assassination with the lines “Yo who your top 5? Jay, Biggie, Pac, Nas? I ain’t tryna hear another name if it’s not mine.” Still, miraculously the grumblings about him not getting his props among the all-time greats persisted. Today, that ends. Officially.
