Taija New is an ambitious Hip Hop artist from Springfield, Massachusetts. She began writing music during her sophomore year at UMass and publicly presented her music in November 2014. New began her music career by attending open mics weekly as her intent was to build her stage presence and sharpen her skills. Since then she has dropped many remixes to songs like Pusha-T’s ‘Untouchable‘ and Sonny Digital’s ‘I’m the Man‘ all while releasing two singles, Al Capone and Newbian King. Both singles helped New to be deemed Up Next by Hot 93.7 in Hartford, Connecticut. Her submission of Newbian King was selected by Pandora which lead to her own radio channel on the site. She released her debut EP “Color Me Complex” by physical copy on November 14th, 2015 during her first sold out concert showcase “The New Experience” as well as on her website , www.TaijaNew.com. She then released #CMC digitally at the top of the year (available on iTunes,Google Play,Amazon MP3, Spotify, Tidal etc.)
Many who have been performing in the music business for years said that Taija New came out of nowhere and hit the ground running. While working on music she has performed at shows including Hartford’s Pride Festival, the First Annual Hartford Latino Festival, The Springfield Indie Soul Festival amongst many other gigs including her own show mentioned prior. She strongly feels that live performance is one of the most important aspects of her career; this is where she get’s to touch and connect with her fans, the “Newbians“. At any given show, New is usually walking into the crowd and interacting with with the audience so they are active participants rather than viewers.
When asked how she feels about her music she answered “I eat, breath, sleep and live my music every single day of the year. There is not one day that goes by that I am not reaching for more opportunities for myself and for my city. Springfield,Ma has no spotlight for music even though there is an insane movement here. I plan to make my city known for who we are as a people and less for the crime and violence that is displayed to the masses on the news.”
This coming year New plans to perform more in and outside of New England as she works on her second project. Hear her latest single ‘No Holds Barred‘ below.
