The authorities in Montgomery County, Pa., announced criminal charges this morning (Wed.12/30/15) against entertainer Bill Cosby stemming from a woman’s accusation that he drugged and sexually abused her at his home in Cheltenham Township, a suburb north of Philadelphia. After almost a year of allegations of sexual assault and drugging stemming from the past 4 decades by over 40 different women, prosecutors have decided to go forward and press felony charges against the comedian and entertainment mogul for an aggravated indecent assault incident in 2004.
Mr. Cosby became a “mentor” and “friend” to Ms. Andrea Constand while working with the Temple University basketball team. At one point she went to Mr. Cosby’s home, where he made two sexual advances that were rejected. A statement from the district attorney’s office said the victim ingested three blue pills along with wine and water. She felt “frozen” and “paralyzed” as she was being assaulted, it said.
Kevin Steele, Montgomery County’s district attorney-elect, says, “The evidence is strong and sufficient to proceed. A person in that state cannot give consent.” Mr. Steele also stated his office was examining evidence related to other alleged victims.
There was no immediate response to the charges from Mr. Cosby’s lawyer.
