Missy has been producing innovative music videos for decades now, and her latest for “WTF (Where They From)” keeps the rapper on trend with out there concepts and over the top costumes. All we had seen previously of “WTF” was an NBA promo spot, but after promising the visuals, Missy comes through.
Directed by Dave Meyers and Missy herself, the video shows Missy dancing in all types of venues and gear, from a disco ball looking fit, to marionette dolls jiggling around to the beat. When Missy raps, “Got a new idea let me switch it/Man I’m so futuristic” it’s easy to believe her. Though she sticks to her tried and true trope of young-girl-as-b-boy, the rest of the video is an exercise in innovation.
